It is not common knowledge that its sister has, unfortunately, also picked up this habit.
So when SecUnit disagrees with Iris over something and watches her turn around and leave without argument, it has no idea what is coming.

Summary
While traveling together post-NE, ART and Murderbot stumble across concerning traces of an old familiar enemy. Murderbot sets off to investigate and finds itself trapped, held hostage by a mysterious augmented human with no idea where it is, why, and how it's going to get out of this. To make things worse, it's supposed to deal with having emotions about things on top of all this? Real things, not just Sanctuary Moon? Ugh.

I had seen crazier crimes on mining installations full of adult humans who should know better than to piss off their coworkers — a small break-in at a dorm room months ago with nothing stolen was loads better compared to that.
But the security did suck ass here. And things like this could turn very serious, very quickly. Plus, with my luck, it probably would.

After a break-in at Iris’ room at the university, ART asks SecUnit if it would be willing to act as her security detail while the investigation is underway. This is standard.
The catch, of course, is that the “investigation” is also being handled by ART — and SecUnit by extension, because ART does not know the meaning of “staying out” of things. It doesn’t help either that the culprit is likely one of the many young humans that Iris is friends with, meaning there’s likely stupid social drama involved. Who knew that investigating a crime involved committing a lot of crime? And socializing?

The humans were going to want to know what a combat override module was, what it did, how it worked, and most importantly, why it hadn't worked on me. I could answer the first three things just fine, but short of telling my already-jittery clients I was hacked ("so I'm actually one of those scary rogue units you've heard so much about, but the good news is that a combat override module can't hijack a governor module that doesn't work!"), that last thing was going to be a big problem.

You knew I was a complete fuck up when you signed my contract.
That is not something I have ever been aware of.
I fell silent.
Something in my organic parts was telling me I was about to be hit with the urge to curl up on the floor and hide my face (that definitely wasn't doing anything weird) from ART’s corridor camera. I pushed it down to some place in my systems out of my immediate reach.
Nobody hates SecUnit more than SecUnit. ART thinks this is a problem. It has some ideas on how to solve it--ideas that may or may not involve glitter pens and horrible robot puns. As a treat.

Murderbot is captured by the company. How lucky of them to get such a well-performing unit back to use in a new, experimental program. After all, after a few security updates and upgrades, it's just as good as new. Better, even!

My processors threatened to stall. Sec Unit was still down there?
Tarik, WHAT happened? I asked again

Sec Unit is badly hurt on a mission and ART isn't sure if it can repair it this time. Its humans have all but given up and ART is alone in believing that it will come out of this. After all, it promised to see the new World Hoppers movie with it, together.
