Kevin took a deep breath and went inside. Renee was wide awake, sitting upright and maintaining a careful smile. Kevin sat beside her.
“I don’t want the same parameters that I had with Andrew,” he said.
Renee didn’t miss a beat. “We can discuss the specifics of what you want me to do,” she assured.
Kevin looked at her. Beneath that gentle smile and sweet demeanor was something else, an edge that he hadn’t bothered to notice before. Renee was calm because she was competent. Andrew wouldn’t have let him go if she wasn’t. Kevin had to trust that no matter how little he knew her, Renee Walker knew what she was doing. With her, he would still be safe.

Note: It's a pretty soft fic. The plot isn't really there, but Renee and Kevin are going to fall in love and that's what matters.

“You what?” He can hear the panic in his mother’s voice.
“Hayden helped me get a rental car,” he grits out, taking a steadying breath. “I-I have to get to him.”
