A visit to the world of Alrest in the company of his wife, plus the Empress and her Shadow gave them opportunities to go shopping and him opportunites to study and tinker. After the shopping trip, Shulk got to compliment the purchases of both Fiora and Melia.
But even Tyrea wants for compliments too, and that leads to the opportunity for the pair to experiment together for the first time and for the Shadow of the Empress to maybe, just maybe, let Shulk know why it had taken as long as it had.

Elise thinks it’s a whole load of nonsense, personally.
But then she finds a mage hiding in her old granary, speaking of Elise’s supposed fate, to defeat the demon, and reclaim her heritage.
Maybe her granny’s strange ramblings meant more than Elise thought they did.
