Summary
Burn Butcher Burn is the story of the Capitol through the eyes of Catalina Cain, who’s a lot of things. Most notably: heiress who lived and died by pretty lies, handmaiden to President Snow’s reign of terror, and the leader of his "engineering" team. She’s also Finnick Odair’s friend, and an integral cog in the rebellion, and atoning. A hand of vengeance, instrument of grace; woman, who remembers fireplace ashes and sparklers stuck into cakes.
AKA: Ashley wanted more Capitol worldbuilding, so goddammit, Ashley's going to provide that.
Burn Butcher Burn and the story of Catalina Cain originally appeared in two different forms: The Rest Of Us Just Are, a short story-type fic from a defunct zine and The Necromancer's Ballad, which appeared on various Discords throughout the year. Sorry if you liked this, because it's changed a good bit! But at least it's longer now? And yes, that is a Witcher reference. And yes, I am mad that they replaced Henry Cavill. “Can I ask you something?” Finnick’s voice startles her from her reverie and she turns to find him staring right at her with those piercing green eyes. Annie suddenly doesn’t trust her voice to speak, so she simply nods. “Why did you join the Academy?”
She doesn’t really have to think about it. “It’s an honor,” Annie replies, repeating the words she’s been told her entire life. “To represent the district. To bring pride to everyone.”
His gaze grows even more intense and she feels heat rise in her cheeks as she forces herself not to look away. “And you believe that?”
His cynical tone comes as a surprise. “Don’t you?” she asks, mystified.--
Annie Cresta has been training in District Four's competitive Hunger Games Academy since she was twelve years old. It's an honor to be part of the Academy and learn from all of Four's victors, including the annoyingly well-liked Finnick Odair. In her final year of eligibility, Annie will have to push herself if she wants to be chosen to bring glory to her district.

“Allison’s a thousand miles away. Mom doesn’t leave the school. The cops aren’t going to talk to Pogo. Five’s gone. Ben’s dead. So I called you.”
“There’s Vanya,” pointed out Luther.
“I don’t know her number.”
“I was literally your last resort.”
“Exactly!” Klaus clapped an arm on Luther’s shoulder with a broad grin. “I wouldn’t bother you if I could get someone else, but alas, it’s just us brothers. The two German ones. The German brotherhood. No, wait, don't call it that. That sounds Nazi-ish. Let’s stick with just brothers.”
