At Neal and Yuki's wedding, Dom asks Kel a question that could change everything.
“Can I kiss you, Kel?”
The words are simple and plain, not fancy and filigreed, but they take her breath away. Her hand goes to her mouth, her throat working but no sound comes out. She never thought – well, that’s not entirely true, but she never expected – oh this would complicate things, when everything is already so complicated, and yet…
“You can say no,” Dom says after a moment of silence. “If you aren’t interested – I’m honored to be your friend, to work beside you. I’d be perfectly content if we never changed a thing. But… if you were interested… well.”
Kel feels like her heart is going to pound out of her chest. “If I say yes,” she says, her voice so soft that Dom has to lean in to hear her, “what does that mean?”
Dom’s smile is warm and gentle and so sweet and she can barely breathe looking at him so she closes her eyes. “It can mean whatever you want it to mean,” he says. “It can mean a moment… or it can mean more. It’s up to you.”- Language:
