Lieutenant Commander Kathryn Janeway is no shrinking violet and refuses to be ashamed of being an omega. It’s true that being in thrall to her hormones every few months is utterly ridiculous, but the main difficulty is the ingrained social structure that prevents people of her designation rising the ranks of Starfleet. Well, now she has an opportunity to champion her designation as she becomes the first omega to be accepted onto the Accelerated Command Programme, an elite training course for Starfleet’s brightest and best. She fully intends to plough through the gruelling course, ignoring any outdated prejudices her classmates might have about her status. Unfortunately, it seems her scent has been caught by William Riker, the most swaggering, posturing, smug, cocky, arrogant, handsome, intelligent and surprisingly sensitive and thoughtful alpha she’s ever met. How tiresome.

Warnings: This is a Mirror Universe AU, so both Janeway and Riker behave reprehensibly and murder people with no compunction. Although this story primarily focusses on political intrigue, conspiracy and machination, there are occasional descriptions of violence, bordering on graphic. There are mentions of, but no lengthy detailed descriptions of torture. There are threats of rape, although all on-screen sex is consensual. Janeway and Riker do not get their come-uppance.

A novel based on the WWII holodeck setting of the two-part episode "The Killing Game" of the television series Star Trek Voyager.
SYNOPSIS
The paths of Katrine du Pléssis and Captain Charles Anson Miller cross, diverge, then cross again. Their lives are traced from events in 1936 and span almost ten years. When they meet in July of 1944, they will each have known and experienced suffering, yet when Captain Miller leaves, they will have touched each others' lives and those of others in a manner that remains as enduring as the eternal flame of friendship and love and loyalty, and they will realise that out of the ashes can be born again, a new life.
Paramount owns Katrine, Robert Davis, Brigitte and Capt. Miller. There does exist a town of St. Clair in France.
