Summary
Akira closed his eyes in the velvet room and opened them to reality.
He found himself sat in his room in the juvenile detention centre he had apparently been in since late last year. He stared out into the fading evening light. He closed his eyes in one prison and awoke in another. The room was cramped and bare with a tatami floor and consisted only of a pile of bedding, a small cupboard to store clothing and a small table. At least he had a window.
It was strange. He didn’t feel the need to ask what would otherwise be quite pressing questions. He seemed to know the details of his time here and roughly what his mundane daily routine here was. The memories were in his mind like he really had been locked up here for the last month. They overlapped contradictorily with his memories of the false reality. Akira’s head was spinning.
He could trace it all back easily enough. It was the simple structure of that true or false game that had become some kind of crutch to Akira now. Something to help sort out all the thoughts flooding him, something to ground himself to reality while he didn’t feel like he was living in it.
Akira could trace it back to simple things. Simple in matters of the heart at least.

Akira is looking at him, from across the small pocket of space between them, cancerous sparks of hope swimming in his grey eyes. If he just cast that pride away maybe this time it'll be different.
