When your daughter Mirabelle is born, you hold her and tell yourself you'll protect her to your dying breath. When she cries at night, you fly up to hold her, shush her, until she's asleep again. You buy her toys and comfort her as she teethes. You and Ferdinand have her tested for anything and everything, but luckily she's a very healthy baby. She does take a while to learn to crawl and walk because you keep carrying her everywhere, but that's okay. She can be little and helpless as long as she needs. There's no danger for her.

Summary
Two days after being discovered unconscious in the library computer lab, Berdly is declared dead, and worse, the death is ruled a homicide. On top of it all, chief of the Hometown police force Undyne goes missing the same night, leaving Napstablook to work with a big city detective, whose harsh methods appall an already emotional Hometown.
Noelle Holiday knows she killed Berdly. With this thorn in her finger and this not-Kris voice in her ear, it's impossible for her not to. Grappling with the not-Kris trying to control her and her own guilt but unwilling to go to jail, she attempts to cover up the crime.
Meanwhile, Martlet comes to visit Hometown for her younger cousin's funeral. She brings her friend Clover with her for emotional support. Clover plans for a subdued trip, but strong dislike of the detective and their own curiosity and keen sense of justice draws them into the case.
