Summary
After the events of Mizumono, Hannibal became a wanted criminal with money and ties to Europe, so the FBI sent his information internationally. This didn't work out well for Nigel, who was forced to leave Gabi (her father was blackmailing him with incriminating evidence) and was trying to lay low by leaving Romania temporarily around the same time Hannibal disappeared.

Summary
He wondered if Hannibal would learn to perk up at the sound of Will’s uneven gait, meeting his eyes only after the last step. It would be learned without conscious noise- simple conditioning. Salivating at the sound of a bell, hungering at the sight of him. He wanted to be so deep inside Hannibal’s cathedral of a mind that the very sound of Will’s breath would set the beast’s brain on fire, pulling on chains with no will of its own.
For now, though, he needed to nurse the man back to health. All in good time.
In which both Hannibal and Will survive the fall, with Hannibal gravely injured and nonspeaking. They navigate this new dynamic and the aftermath of becoming through exchanging power, vulnerability, and ownership- something bright as hellfire, holy as the tail of the fallen morning star.
