Summary
Dean’s voice is coming closer, echoing down the halls and around the corners of this unbelievable place, and John’s first instinct is to tense up, triangulate the sound of his son’s call with the source of the danger. But Dean’s voice is not raised in fear, doesn’t carry the sharp bite of command. He’s just looking for his brother.
“Sammy – oh, hey, Dad.”
There’s something in the way he says it, Dad, that tugs at John’s ear. Like it’s a word, not a name, and a word he hasn’t said in a long time, too.

Written for Summergen 2025 for a prompt of missing scenes between John and Dean during the events of s14e13 Lebanon.

Summary
Hawkeye steps off the train at Grand Central Station and there he is, not even ten paces away and already looking right at him, like there was no other place for him to be.
“You’re a sight for sore eyes, Hawk,” Sidney murmurs, hugging him right back before he holds him out at arm’s length to look him over with a grin. “I never realized how good-looking you were under all that mud, blood and khaki.”
— — —
Or: In September 1954, Hawkeye reaches out to Sidney for the first time since they made it home. Sidney’s reply is an invitation.

Summary
“You know for a guy who claims to have two left feet you really held your own out there, Father,” Hawkeye says, and then leans in to repeat it right into Mulcahy’s ear, one hand still settled on his waist and giving him a little squeeze as he adds, “You can’t tell me you didn’t take those feet out for a twirl or two before that savior of yours put a ring on your finger. Come on, you must have some good stories, huh? Huh?”
Mulcahy pulls back to look at him, cheeks glowing as he beams up into his face. “Oh, Hawkeye. Haven’t you learned by now that a priest must never kiss or tell?”

Hawkeye and Mulcahy, dancing cheek to cheek.

Summary
There’s an open footlocker on the floor by Pierce’s feet, and as BJ watches he folds a patterned silk robe and tucks it away.
“What are you doing?” BJ asks, when he starts to feel the silence pressing on his eardrums.
“Just playing house,” Pierce says in that same sing-song voice he’d used the day before outside the officer’s club.
---
Waking up sick in the middle of his first night in Korea, BJ finds his new bunkmate going through his old bunkmate's things. They talk, Hawkeye offering him comfort, tea, and a slender hope from which to hang his sanity.

Summary
BJ has never seen Hawkeye react to a patient this way, folding the kid's hand between both of his and beaming down into his face. He's still groggy but BJ watches as his eyes focus on Hawkeye, as recognition blooms across his face with a big smile to follow. Hawkeye turns after a minute and beckons BJ closer, introducing him. Backwards. Usually it’s all Private so-and-so this is Doctor Hunnicutt, your personal miracle worker. Today he hears, “Beej, we've got a repeater here! Meet George Weston, already the bearer of some of my finest work.”
---
Or: During a marathon OR session, BJ uses their new vascular clamp to work a miracle on a mangled leg. Over the next week he watches as Hawkeye gives the patient special attention, the weight of history between them reminding BJ that for all he feels he's known Hawkeye for his entire life, Hawkeye has been through a lot that has nothing to do with him.
And that's even before he wakes in the middle of the night to hear Hawk and Weston talking quietly on the other side of the tent, musing on life, love, happiness, and a certain doctor who went home without a note.

Summary
Hawkeye, decked out in Klinger’s best driving hat and gloves, smooths his hands over his thighs as though brushing wrinkles from a skirt and as he starts up the jeep Sam hears him call out, affected and breathless, “My young man is taking me for a drive in the countryside!”
Sam glances to the side to see Trapper John leaning against the door to the Swamp, arms crossed and a sly grin on his face as he gives Hawk a little roll of his eyes. A group of enlisted men heading towards the basketball hoop pause to look up at Hawkeye and give him a round of whistles and leers.
That Hawkeye, isn’t he a riot? Keeping his smile in check, Sam puts the jeep in gear and starts easing his way out of the compound. By tomorrow morning, if anyone remembers them leaving together, all they’ll remember is Klinger’s hat and Hawkeye’s joke. Just another one of Pierce’s antic schemes.
---
Or: When Hawkeye's impromptu key party sees him paired off with Sam Pak for the night, he takes Sam across the road to Rosie’s where they have a drink and get to know each other a little better.
Then Sam takes Hawkeye on a drive where they get to know each other a lot better.

Summary
He and Hawkeye were looking out the front window, speculating about when the snow would start, when an unfamiliar car turned into their lane and in the middle of telling his father that he didn’t have the faintest idea who it could be Hawkeye fell silent, mouth open, utterly still for a long moment before he rubbed his eyes with both hands like a little boy waking from a dream, and sprinted outside in his house slippers.
Watching from behind the curtain, Daniel didn’t need to hear the words they exchanged to understand what he was seeing. His son’s face and gestures eloquent with incredulity, he pulled the other man into an embrace that was so fiercely returned, Daniel made himself turn away. Without wanting to intrude, he found that he could not easily blink away the afterimage of the expression on the stranger's face.
---
January, 1954. Hawkeye has been home with his father for five months, but it's the arrival of an unexpected guest that opens up the space they need to actually talk.

Summary
It’s late. Or early. Sam lost track of the time sometime after he lost track of the date. He thinks it’s been about five days since he punched Dean, since he grabbed him and begged him to believe in them, since Dean patted his cheek and said ‘Let’s go home.’ Somewhere in the vicinity of five days and Sam has been chasing down leads ever since that turn slippery and cold the moment he starts to tighten his fingers around them, leaving him with handful after handful of nothing.
---
Written for Summergen 2024. Desperate to find a way to save Dean from Michael, Castiel and Sam discuss a potential solution, one that brings up a lot of old baggage for Sam. The solution was my giftee’s prompt, so all credit for this brilliant premise goes to AmberSock!

Summary
“Seeing you sure brings back a few things.” Hawkeye says it like a confession, leaning back in his chair with his head tipped up to the stars.
“You too,” Sidney murmurs, and can’t help the smile that breaks over his face when Hawkeye rolls his head to the side to look at him. “You’re one of a kind, Hawkeye. You were then and you are now. I’m glad to see that hasn’t changed.”
---
Or: When he was thirty years old and living in Brooklyn, Sidney bumped into a young med student visiting the city for a taste of the queer nightlife. Ten years later in Korea they meet by chance once again, and spend the next three years growing closer and more entangled. -

Summary
Helen takes her hand and they giggle like schoolkids playing hooky as they sneak through the side yard and out to the street, looking over their shoulders almost like they’re hoping that they were spotted, like they really are running from something more than an evening of boring civility at the home of the most prominent doctor in the city.
Margaret thinks about Lorraine Anderson, suddenly, and about how she hasn’t felt this kind of uncomplicated joy from simply being in another person’s presence in so very long.
---
Or: In the summer during her first year of nursing school, Margaret attends a Fourth of July garden party with her new friend Helen Whitfield. They sneak out before the fireworks.
Written for the MASH fic Olympics. Theme: Orange

Summary
“In your profession, even when someone gets lost they aren’t really gone, but unfortunately there aren’t too many prodigal patients around here. Once they’re lost, they’re out of our hands. You don’t have to like it but you do have to accept it, otherwise you’re just sucking around for a one-way ticket to the bug house.”
Mulcahy’s eyes are a crystalline blue, shining in the impersonal overhead light. He makes the cramped little space feel like a cathedral, his voice carrying the gravitas of a pipe organ. “Do you accept that, Hawkeye?”
---
Set partway through the episode where the nurses have all been evacuated, this story takes place directly after the surgery session where Father Mulcahy is assisting Hawkeye in the OR.
Let’s keep those sponges coming, Father. ‘Nurse’ is also a verb.

“It’s going to rain later,” David muses, scowling to his right.
“It’s raining now.” Michael drinks deeply from his coffee mug, long gone cold.
The quiet stretches between them and Michael’s mind has gone leagues away when David turns back to the screen and asks, “How do you suppose we would have met?”
---
At the beginning of S02E02 David says "We should quit ... we can do other things!" to which Michael retorts, "You have zero discernable skills beyond pretending!" and they get into it about what else they might have been. David says priest, Michael says footballer. David is intrigued.

Summary
The café is comfortably crowded, the sound of voices mingling with the smell of coffee and pastries in a mélange of familiarity that touches something deep in Sidney’s chest, something that ten years on he’s still working to take on board and believe in as something he can have.
It’s the sense of home that was ripped away from all of them during the war, and the fact that he’s found it here of all places – in this queer little niche he's carved out for himself in a city that’s about as far away from where he ever planned to end up as Korea itself – well, on some days it makes his feet itchy like he’s ready to bolt, but more and more it simply laps at his ankles like the gentlest of waves reminding him that no matter what ocean he’s gazing out over he’s still here on this planet, he’s still breathing, and what’s more he’s surrounded by the people he loves most in the world.

Sidney, ten years after the end of the war, reflecting on home and family.

To say that he knew he was in trouble the moment he first laid eyes on Hawkeye Pierce would be giving himself a little too much credit for foresight. That Hawkeye Pierce was trouble, however, was apparent almost at once.
---
A 5+1 fic starting from the day Sidney met Hawkeye and progressing through to the end of the war. Five kisses Sidney saw Hawkeye give to someone else, and one he finally got for himself.
I'll be writing and posting these as inspiration strikes. Beyond probably Margie Cutler, I'm undecided on who the next four kisses will go to - accepting nominations in the comments.
