Summary
The thing in the center of the circle is tall, tall enough that it has to hunch over to fit in their dorm, its shaggy red coat flattened to its body by the ceiling. It is canine, at least most of it seems to be, its body and face shaped like a starved coyote, down to the protruding ribs and long, thin snout. But its limbs are… wrong. They are stretched out and too human for Andrew’s taste, the fingers long and nimble and ending in jagged talons. Its legs are crossed beneath its giant body, mimicking Kevin’s stance. Elegant horns curve over its head, nestled against long, pointed ears. It’s the eyes that make the hair on the back of Andrew’s neck stand on end. They bulge strangely from its face, wet and black. They are accompanied by a wide, permanent grin with thick tusks on its upper and lower jaws. A long prehensile tongue flicks out to lick its chops as it turns to Nicky, silencing his shrieking with one look.
“Natanyel,” Kevin says.

“Uhh,” Allison pointed directly at the scene as if the others weren’t already watching. “You having a good time over there Kevin?”Neil was pliant, handing Andrew his open can and just letting Kevin do his best to crawl up his legs, failing in what was honestly impressive ways.
“Want… I want to sit.” He said, as if that explained everything about the situation.
“You were already sitting.”
Kevin managed to turn around and shoot a glare at her, though it might have lost the effect when he nearly fell from the movement. Neil had to catch his shoulder to not land face first into the rug.
Nicky waved the behavior off, “Its fine, he just… gets like this sometimes. Cherish it while you can and have your phones ready.”

Summary
Most of the Foxes still think Andrew is a monster, or a sociopath, but Neil knows better. He knows that Andrew cares deeply about a handful of people but struggles more than he will ever admit with that fact.
The thing is, despite Andrew’s commitment to apathy and to denying that he cares about anything, he is often self-sacrificing in his efforts to protect the people he cares about. As Aaron’s trial approaches, Neil gets the sick feeling that Andrew’s self-sacrificing streak is going too far.
