Summary
There is a shortage of many things in the Capitol when the war ends. Food. Stone to rebuild the buildings. Animals, for the zoo. Money, for most of the families.
Kindness.
People aren’t really kind anymore, almost as if they forgot how to look at another and feel empathy about their struggles, far too worried about themselves to think about others, it was almost understandable during the war, but even after it ends this behavior not only continues but it spreads, it becomes their new normal.
So when they see someone being genuinely kind, good for the sake of bringing joy, of providing comfort, they are unable to fully comprehend it. There is a world where children raised into an unkind world look at a boy who offers kindness with the ease he breathes and despise him and his origins, a world where they cannot accept kindness as something that is freely given, something that should be given.
This is not that world.
Or: Sejanus Plinth kills his Capitol classmates with kindness one at the time. That has more consequences than anyone could have imagined.

Men like them don’t love softly. Their love is harsh and consuming and bloody, it tears at them and it drags things from deep inside, things they would rather be left buried, it poisons as much as it heals.
Casca always knew their love would never be soft, would never be gentle, would never be kind, would perhaps never exist beyond his own heart and those drink filled nights. But he wasn’t prepared for the hate, for the grief.
He wasn’t prepared for a world where Crassus Snow wasn’t there for him to hate. For him to love.

Summary
The gossip spreads fast, as it is bound to do in the Academy: Sejanus Plinth has a boyfriend.
It's not necessarily surprising news, District origin aside the boy is pretty enough and truly it shouldn't be hot news for too long, just something to keep the students talking for a day, two at best until the new scandal pops out and attention shift somewhere else.
But every morning that Sejanus shows up at the Academy with a bashful smile and hickeys, the students can see a snowstorm growing harsher and harsher, threatening to take them all.
Coriolanus Snow has deep, very repressed, feelings about the District boy and he is making it everyone's problem.
It's the logical conclusion that they need to do something about this whole situation before Coryo starts legitimately biting people or something. For the sake of their physical and mental well being the new boyfriend has to go even if that means they will have to find a place to hide the body.
Or: Sejanus has a boyfriend, Coryo is having a breakdown about it and the rest of their classmates are determined to get the two of them together no matter the cost (for pure selfish and self serving reasons of course, it’s not like they care or anything).

Summary
It's time for another sick game of the mysterious figure responsible for taking their children. Fit was the first to be called, no one knew what the fuck was happening, what they should be expecting, nervous energy made them talk their heads off that time, sharing theories, trying to not drown on how scared they were.
They all know now that there is a chance their children will be lost. That their life is in the hands of someone else, that there is nothing they can do but wait and pray.
Or: The parents are tasked with rescuing the children. Not their own however, the children of those they call friend. Failure it seems, is inevitable in most cases.
