Summary
Growing up, Mu Qing developed an almost irrational fear of jiangshi. He would listen for the sound of the Taoist priest bell that never came, certain corpses were being moved through the city at night. The windchimes of his elderly neighbor used to send shivers up his spine, keeping him awake.
As he got older and the stories seemed more fantastical, he went from being afraid to consuming zombie media whenever he could get his hands on it. Even now, though fear was certainly swirling in his stomach, it was colored by a strange fascination.
Perhaps that was why he couldn’t stop himself from watching the undead outside their window, standing in the courtyard, stiff as statues, staring at nothing.

When the world ends due to a zombie outbreak, Xie Lian, Mu Qing, and Feng Xin have only each other to rely on. But the ties that bind are more fragile than they could have ever imagined.

Summary
Objectively, turning down the invitation to her close friend's wedding was probably the best choice for everyone involved.
There were too many things that made her sick to her stomach: knowing she could be spending time studying for med school, going back to the place she spent three weeks every summer at and knowing any nostalgia is replaced with bitterness, seeing the literal devil drooling over Xie Lian and doing anything her friend says, a crowd of people who were constantly dragging her into shenanigans, watching different couples suck face, being flirted with by the fucking flower boy, being forced into luxury dressing rooms, the overwhelming sense of guilt she feels at what has happened in the past and having to face it, forcing herself to not cry upon seeing her friend in a wedding dress (it was a beautiful dress in her defense!), and seeing the way Feng Xin had changed in different (and very [un]attractive) ways.
Between whispered conversations underneath tables at restaurants, plans being made between beach chairs, hitting their former professor in the head with a ball when scheming on the golf course, and late nights laying on the sand staring up at the sky, the wedding was doomed.
