“I’ll make you a deal,” Kate murmurs, tracing her index finger down Lucy’s cheek and along her jaw. “If it’s still bothering you tomorrow, we’ll talk about it then. But right now…” she curls her thumb under Lucy’s chin, pressing until Lucy catches the hint and glances back up, “it’s late and you need to sleep.”
“I know.” Lucy wraps a loose hand around Kate’s wrist, eyes gleaming in the low light, not quite teary but not entirely dry either. “But I just–” her teeth tug at her lower lip, “I can’t–”
“Turn your brain off?”
“Yeah.”
