The first letter Essek receives from Caleb Widogast is secreted into his pocket at some point during a tense interview with the Bright Queen. For the life of him, Essek cannot figure out how it was done. He doesn’t recall so much as brushing against the other man as he escorted the Mighty Nein out of the Lucid Bastion.
Yet when he returns to his office, there it is, tucked into a nearly invisible pocket in his mantle — a piece of subpar parchment folded to vaguely resemble a cat’s face with tiny pointed ears.

“Lan Zhan,” the figure said. People didn’t tend to have the experience of hearing their own voice the way it’d sound to other people, but Wei Wuxian supposed that that was the least of his concerns right now.
A Wei Wuxian who's the sect leader of Yunmeng Jiang is displaced into this world. Wei Wuxian, ex-Yiling Laozu and current husband of Hanguang Jun, has unexpected feelings about it.

Summary
Three years from the end of the novel, Wei Wuxian continues to live freely, albeit quietly, resigned to keeping silent amidst continued hostility from Yunmeng Jiang, and the cultivation world at large. However, as old grievances tighten around him, threatening to ensnare him in a plot to put him to trial, he and Lan Wangji must find a way to defend his actions. Jiang Cheng turns out to be an unexpected ally. This turn of events may very well force them to confront the wrongs they have committed against each other, and apologize for past feuds.
Alternative summary: Am I The Asshole? Yunmeng Jiang loyalists plot to have Wei Wuxian publicly labeled as The Asshole. Jiang Cheng is bewildered, seeing as he thinks that The Asshole is himself. In other news, when you’re both bad at talking about feelings, mutually unrequited forgiveness happens.
