For all that Ned could tell you up and down the theoretical importance of knowing your bannermen, he was still quite unprepared for the first major incident caused by the inability to predict the desires and actions of the men who owed Ned fealty. In his defense, being unexpectedly made King would always be a difficult thing to be prepared for.

From his uncomfortable position suspended in the air, Jon looks down at the girl standing with her hands on her hips. She is around his age, with bark brown hair in two braids, forest green eyes, and dressed in a brown hunting ensemble.
“Be quiet, stupid. You scared away the gods themselves!”
The indignation of being caught in a trap by a girl catches up to him. “Let me down! You shouldn’t have put your stupid trap there.”
“How else are you meant to catch game?” She yells up at him before untangling a rope and Jon falls to the ground with a thud.
