Summary
For Freminet, taking the brunt of what he thought was an acid attack aimed towards Spina di Rosula's boss was nothing more than a split second decision. He wouldn't call himself a hero by any stretch of the imagination, and he wouldn't say he led his life with noble and virtuous intentions either...
...but when the urge to help someone comes to him, he ponders little over it. That's just what a good person would do, and Freminet desperately wants to be a good.
(Still, maybe he should have paid more attention to just what was being splashed.)
OR
Freminet dissolves into water. That really should have been the end of it, but it seems like the ocean wasn't keen on letting him go yet.

Wilbur yanked his hand out of sleeping Tommy’s hair and the blue string snaps back away from the boy, leaving a small scratch on his hand that began to leak tiny droplets of blood.
The string began twisting and writhing around in the air surrounding Wilbur. Angry energy poured from it in an attempt to combat the constant loneliness that threatened to drown the brown-haired man.
He could feel it.
Wilbur could feel the longing.
He could recognize the desperation leaking out of the blue thread.
The loose end that wanted so desperately to be connected with someone.
And Tommy was supposed to be that someone.
Just for some reason, fate was cruel.
Wilbur wasn’t Tommy’s soulmate.
As much as he wanted him to be.
OR: Wilbur has a platonic string of fate that has been severed and he wishes it was attached to his little brother but it wasn't.
