“I can’t,” Tim said—and Jason would’ve rolled his eyes and kept pressing, but the way Tim’s voice just barely cracked gave him pause.
Jason looked at him. The kid looked tired, obviously—but there was something more to it, too. A twitchiness, a fear, a panic even more profound than what the Knights all experienced as their default. Jason clapped his hand on Tim’s shoulder. “Fine. Sleep or don’t; frankly, I don’t give enough of a shit about your sleep habits to force a bedtime on you. I’m gonna sleep soon, though, and I wanna go up on the roof before I do. Care to join me?”
This approach seemed to disarm Tim. After a moment, he replied with a quiet, “Fine.”
Tim escaped from the Court's maze. He's doing... fine. Totally, totally fine.
