Summary
Haydn waits expectantly. Which then morphs into a slowly-raising eyebrow as he realises that Morgott, crisply-spoken and decisive and impatient Veiled Monarch Morgott, is hesitating. When he does speak, it’s very careful: “It hath not escaped my notice that thou hast been… exceedingly loyal, to Leyndell. And its king. As reward for leal service, it is customary for knights to be offered… a boon.”
He blinks owlishly at him, “What sort of boon?”
Morgott gestures airily. It has a touch of the this is as far as I rehearsed to it. “Few things are out of a monarch’s power to give. Request what thou wilt.”
King Morgott of Leyndell aims to reward a loyal Tarnished knight for his service, but could not have anticipated what the Tarnished would ask for - or where it would lead.

Summary
“We could, we could…” he’s out of ideas. He knows Margit isn’t speaking in hyperbole, if he’s seen the Erdtree burn before. But it seems completely insane to Haydn that whatever force is behind the guidance of grace would move him to such mass destruction, when it also wants him to become Elden Lord and preside over a new age. It doesn’t line up with him destroying everything. “Grace wants me to do this, and grace is supposed to be good,” he lands on at last. Even Margit can’t deny that – his whole thing is venerating graceborn and spurning curseborn, himself included. “That has to mean there’s a future in which the Erdtree is okay again. And – and maybe Leyndell too, eventually. After the ash is cleared.”
But Margit just shakes his head, his voice hoarse. “It would not undo the damage done. I can speak no more plainly, Tarnished. If the Erdtree burns, thou condemns me to live in failure, and shame. So this must end here.”
Grace has guided tarnished to the final steps of Flame Peak, to burn the Erdtree. But there is one final, immovable obstacle in the way.

Summary
“The Erdtree is but a tool,” she speaks steadily, and the limb snaps into place with a scatter of arcane sparks. Metal fingers flex around a slender blade that forms part of the prosthesis. “And a tool for the Outer Gods, at that. It cannot be saved, nor should it be.”
These are bold words for the Erdtree’s number one fan, and Haydn casts an unsure glance his way. He sees the knuckles of those great hands tighten around his gnarled staff, along with the line of Margit’s jaw. “I must disagree,” he returns, clipped, on the knife edge of civility.
“You are short-sighted,” she tells him. The softness of her voice does nothing to mask the bluntness of her words. “Accept the last gasp of this era, Morgott. Miquella’s Age approacheth, and if you interfere, I will intervene.”
Tarnished and Margit venture to the Haligtree, where Tarnished finds more than he bargained for.

Summary
The focus of this temple-platform is a great statue of an unknown nox scholar, robed and bearded and lost to the ages. Perched atop the serene countenance, with an almost lackadaisical grace contrast to his great bulk, is the Lord of Blood in his winged glory. Bat-corvid feathers a blot against the star-strewn false sky. As effortless and dangerous as any bird of prey.
“You’ll forgive the staging,” he calls down to Haydn. Despite said staging his whispering voice may as well be next to Haydn’s ear, sending a prickle up his nape. “One never knows how a tarnished will react to bad news. I’d rather not be in hitting distance.”
Tarnished stumbles into the worst possible place.

Summary
“Which is of course his majesty’s business,” Marquis Cemais scrabbles at once. However the remainder of the court stare daggers at him until he elaborates, “But we do have some fears that, uhm, that, his intentions may be less than noble.”
Shanehaight too perseveres: “He came from nowhere and insinuated himself within the palace and your busy schedule. The Tarnished plainly seeks your favour, my liege, and we are troubled at the lengths he might go to to obtain it.”
Unbelievable. The courtiers have never been this absurd. Granted, there hasn’t been cause to ruffle any feathers in a long, long time, but Morgott remains ever dismayed by just how ruffled they are. Frostily, he says, “This is what thou means to discuss? Thou thinketh me seduced, Shanehaight?”
The Veiled Monarch and the newest Lord Contender are the talk of Leyndell. But as the Erdtree's fate remains a point of contention, the Tarnished takes more drastic measures.

Summary
“The Omen condition,” he starts carefully, “the curse, is ill-documented, but in short it is a bestial biology. It comes with certain drawbacks.”
Tarnished’s voice takes on a somewhat worried quality, “Is this about when we last spoke? I meant what I said–” but hushes when Margit holds up a hand.
“Not that.” When Tarnished assured him that this affection was not simple novelty, morbid curiosity about a creature more beast than man. Morgott is still not sure he believes the words, pretty though they were. But he’s dwelled on it long enough anyway. “I mean to explain that this curse is much more than skin-deep. There are certain behaviours that are also animal. And… urges,” his amber gaze flicks over to the Tarnished, watching hawk-like for any signs of revulsion, “of the physical kind.”
On advice, Morgott finally (technically) takes Tarnished to bed in the hopes of sating a need and quelling his attachment. But Mohg's word is NEVER to be trusted.

Summary
In his distraction his foot skids on a patch of too-slippery rock; one hand tightens on his handhold while the other, on instinct, swiftly clasps across his passenger’s back to secure him. The pulse in Margit’s ear gives a jump, accompanied by an oddly squeaky sound from the man himself.
“…It is fine,” he says, low enough to be almost more rumble than noise. He gets no reply, and in lieu of knowing how to comfort, gives the Tarnished a further pat on the back and adds in well-meaning tease, “Thou wert willing to drop off the waterfall in a stone box, but climbing down afears thee?”
“Fear, yep.” Tarnished’s voice is more muffled than usual; it takes him a moment to realise he’s hiding his face in the large mantle of Margit’s cloak. Must be to avoid looking at the drop. “Fear is the issue, sure is.”
Margit helps Tarnished traverse a waterfall. But during respite from the chill dark, things get a little... out of hand.

Summary
He finally addresses the rest of the court. “This sham of a symposium is over. When this court next convenes I expect it to conduct itself with some actual decorum. Thou art dismissed.”
Haydn expects that he will also be ordered to scurry away with the rest of the courtiers, but there are still fingers pinching the back of his neck. Once the room is cleared he wriggles free like an eel, sour in countenance at his argument being interrupted. “It wasn’t petty drama, I’ll have you know.”
“If thou’rt to cause me a diplomatic incident,” the monarch hisses back, “the least thou could do is speak to me with proper respect.”
“Your majesty,” Haydn returns acidly with a shallow bow, and turns to leave. He yelps as he’s summarily seized about the back of the neck again, “Stop manhandling me!”
“Would that thou were not in need of handling, little man,” is the growled reply.
The Tarnished who would be Elden Lord faces his most annoying enemy yet: Leyndell's court of nobles. The last thing he needs is to develop a covert admiration for the enigmatic (and scornful) King Morgott - but events at the Serpent-Sunder festival will change everything.

Summary
Haydn gestures fruitlessly, any eloquence escaping him. “This used to be… easy. And now it’s not easy. I can’t think what I’ve done or said to warrant this cold shoulder I’m getting, so if you could just tell me instead of making me guess, I’d really appreciate it.”
The directness seems to put the Omen on the spot. “That – it is – there is no upset.”
He heaves a sigh, “Come on, don’t do this to me. I’d apologise if I knew what I was apologising for. Just tell me.”
Margit looks at him.
“Thou art too attached,” he says at last.
Tarnished wants to be closer to Margit the Fell, while Margit wants to keep the faith-shaking distraction at arm's length. But a botched attempt to infiltrate Volcano Manor will throw both their plans into disarray.

Summary
The veiled part, it turns out, is quite literal. A head-to-toe drape of funerary-black, just sheer enough that the shape of a man might be seen beneath – this must be what the Night’s Cavalry style themselves after. It’s doubly intimidating given the size of him, several heads taller than anyone else in the room and quite a bit broader too. Must be a demigod thing. The shroud is interrupted only by a simple, heavy golden crown, and a black-clad arm emerging from the folds to lean upon a walking cane. But there is nothing feeble about the way King Morgott holds himself. He silent, and expectant.
The Tarnished strikes a tentative truce with the Veiled Monarch, but peace is not so straight-forward - especially when the monarch himself seems determined to sabotage it.

Summary
“The Capital Outskirts is my territory to defend.” Once more he must assume the role this incantation was designed for: Margit the Fell Omen, scourge of the Shattering, butcher of Tarnished. It feels realms away from where he is now, sat in a shallow lake, exposed down to the wings, with the person he’s supposed to loathe. The cynical side of him (which is to say, most of him) wants to call all of this a scheme to disarm him, to bid him stand aside and let the Tarnished sweep into Leyndell unhindered. But he has the terrible thought that perhaps there is no scheme, and he does not know what to do with that information.
Head bowed, shoulders hunched, he finally summons the will to ask. “Tell me true, throne-eyed Tarnished. Am I to defend it from thee?”
The Tarnished has achieved too much, and Margit has let him get too close.

Summary
“It’s called ‘Margit’s Shackle’,” he says very carefully, at odds with how his heart hammers inside his chest, so loud he swears it could be heard through his armour, “so I would assume you know what it is.”
“Why dost thou possess it?” Margit issues in a snarl that is felt more than heard.
Slow and steady. “I bought it off a merchant called Patches. Chiefly so Patches would no longer have it.” Which was true. “It was not to use against you. I didn’t in Stormveil, remember? Not once.”
“Thou hast owned this since Stormveil?” Margit says icily, and Haydn swallows. Alright, maybe he shouldn’t have admitted that.
It all starts when Margit finds the shackle.

Summary
Description never quite does it justice. That first well of glistening crimson, the way it flows thick, heady and molten-hot beneath his aching fangs. It’s everything he wants, everything he craves… though he’s not so lost in it that he doesn’t feel the retort, those pointed teeth sinking into his own skin. A sharp pain that quickly settles into a dull throb, his undead fortitude already seeks to seal the damage done, but it can’t heal an injury that’s still in progress. But still, it’s far from agony to be bitten; if anything, the sting makes the sweetness of the blood all the more pronounced.
How sweet it is. Blood seeps into his mouth, down his throat, and by some weird vampire anatomy is soon transfused into his veins. It’s liquid life, reigniting every subdued part of him as it goes, making his skin fizz and his fingers tingle with renewed vigour. It seeks to mend his newest wound; the clamp at his neck presses down harder in protest to him out-healing the damage, and Astarion can’t help the low groan that escapes him, his scarlet eyes fluttering shut in bliss. He ought not to like it, but-
Astarion fantasises about biting, and being bitten in return.

Summary
But said paladin immediately frowns, “Categorically not when I’m asleep. If I’m losing blood I want to be conscious and consenting.” Astarion doesn’t get why he wouldn’t take the easier option, but then he notices a pink flush creeping up Revenant’s neck and ears… and it occurs to him that maybe he’s misread the situation. The stilted-ness isn’t unhappiness, it’s fluster.
Revenant also knows he’s flustered, and exhales in short, sharp annoyance. He squares his shoulders and continues in a forcibly stern tone, “My proposition is - that I’ll let you bite me, but I want to bite you back.”
It’s Astarion’s turn to be caught off guard, “Excuse me?”

(Or: a self-appointed vengeful ghost meets a vampire spawn, and reluctant sparks fly. Loosely follows the BG3 plot with canon divergence to keep it interesting. Astarion/Tav, but they’re both terrible at romance.)
