“Are you alright?”
For the second time that day, Kaveh shrieks.
He scrambles backward in a blind panic because there is absolutely no one in the ruins aside from him and the voice is coming from—
The robot. Who is sitting up slowly, turning towards Kaveh. And then it tilts its head to the side, as if in question.
Kaveh blinks.
The robot takes it as him not having heard, apparently, because it repeats, “Are you alright?” and now that Kaveh’s listening properly he can hear the rust in its voice. Raspy and a little grinding like gears being used for the first time in years.
Kaveh finds a strangely human construct in the ruins of a temple, and despite himself, takes the time to try to fix it.
He just didn't think it would actually, y'know, work.

One day, though, he met someone, someone with a smile brighter than the sun, someone who made him crave the wind between his feathers.
Alhaitham never looked for his soulmate, because at the age of 8, his soulmate found him first.

Summary
“I have things for you too,” Alhaitham says, and as much as Kaveh hates it, his head perks up in the direction of his voice, because Alhaitham knows Kaveh can’t resist a good gift. Or any type of gift, really, because he’s too much of a hoarder, even to throw away the ugliest mugs Alhaitham gets him from the market because he thinks it’s funny to take pictures of Kaveh’s horrified face when he opens the packages. “Come on. You can eat something and go back to napping afterwards.”
That does sound like a promising offer, especially when Kaveh’s stomach is starting to make itself known in the form of a loud rumble.
