    By the end of the week, Danny wasn’t sure what kind of asylum he’d crawled into.

    The butler tried to feed him. (He didn’t eat human food anymore. The man looked so sad when Danny refused the soup that Danny almost felt guilty.)

    Someone strung up crosses in the attic. (Danny ignored them. But when they brought up putting in Christmas lights? He hissed on instinct and nearly melted through the floorboards.)

    The angry sword kid tried to evict him again. Danny iced him into a snowdrift in the corner. (Not his fault if he kept coming back.)

    The insomniac came back with a stethoscope, for some reason. He pressed it against the casket lid and muttered about “no heartbeat.” Danny gave one loud, dramatic snore in response.

    All Danny wanted was one thing. Just one.

    Sleep.

    Was that so hard?

    Apparently, in this house, yes.

    Or,

    Danny just wanted a nap, but instead he got a nosy family and a stuffed bat named Steve.

    He grabs the front of the guy's hoodie and yanks him forward.

    “What. Did. You. DO.”

    He raises both hands. “I fixed your soul!”

    “WHAT?!”

    “It was crunchy! You were walking around like someone duct taped you back in with rage magic! I just popped it back in place!”

    Jason stares. “You just ‘popped’ my SOUL back?!”

    “I mean… yeah?”

    Jason grinned as he was led into the exact same cell as before. Danny, sitting cross-legged on the bench, blinked before breaking into a wide, knowing smile.

    “Jason! Welcome back, man.”

    “Thanks, kid.” Jason plopped onto the bench beside him. “What’s the charge this time?”

    Danny hummed, tapping his chin in exaggerated thought. “Alleged arson.”

    Jason choked. “Alleged?”

    Danny nodded sagely. “Can’t prove it was me.”

    Danny just wanted a grilled cheese. That was it. He did not want to accidentally kill the Joker. He did not want to be on Batman’s radar. And he definitely did not want Red Hood to kiss him, cry on him, and then propose all within the span of ten minutes.

    But here he is. In Gotham. Standing over Joker’s corpse. With a very emotionally compromised vigilante looking at him like he just hung the damn stars.

    Danny is so, so tired.

    My take on Danny accidentally killing the Joker.
