He broke the violin. Pitched it down the stairs to feel a brief sense of satisfaction as it smashed against the ground, the sheet music settling over it like snow drifting to the ground. He immediately regretted it.
Mari, getting ready in their room, came rushing out at the noise, and when she saw the mess, she began to yell. Sunny was frightened, Mari had never yelled at him before, but he argued back. He couldn’t yell, but he made his frustration known.
They both said things that they would regret. And Sunny, signing as he spoke as was his habit, used his hands to send a message.
Mari fell down the stairs.

When she fixed him with a look that could kill, he was quick to backpedal. “I mean, you do you and all! You look great and I’m not trying to dictate your style or anything, but, I-I always thought your eyes, your brown eyes, were really pretty- and-” he raised his hands in a placating gesture and leaned away from Aubrey, but her anger quickly dissipated.
“You spend a lot of time looking at my eyes?” She asked, arching her eyebrows.

Summary
The day Sunny finally emerged from his house had been the first day Kel had felt truly happy in years and the days following that were the happiest of his life. Now it sickened him to think that he had high-fived the hands of a murderer. It hurt even more to think of all the time he had spent defending Basil from Aubrey’s gang, unknowingly defending someone who had hanged Mari.
Kel sniffed and angrily kicked the sand of the playground which did nothing but throw dust in his own face and make him cough. He was in Faraway park, it was dark, but his parents wouldn’t care if he came home late, they were too focused on Hero to notice if Kel went missing for a few hours.
A familiar dry laugh caught his attention and he stopped rubbing sand out of his eyes to find the source of the noise… there she was, Aubrey, a few feet away with her eyebrows arched.
“What’d the sand do to you?” She asked in an awkward, humorless tone, like she was trying to break the ice with a joke. It wasn’t funny.

Summary
Vampires were dangerous creatures, and they were especially hated by the religious people of Fódlan for being dark and unholy creatures. Stories about vampires explained that they had been evil, greedy people who were cursed by the Goddess to become awful, blood-sucking creatures as punishment for their crimes. They were burned by sunlight and silver, and could survive only on human blood. Vampires were few and far between now, according to old stories they had been wiped out by Saints, in newer stories they were slayed by Knights (usually followers of Seiros), but nowadays they were taken care of by mercenaries.
When word of a possible vampire sighting reached the Archbishop, Rhea, she knew it had to be dealt with immediately.
