Bobby’s heart thumped against his chest when he held his breath too long.
“Who is this?”
“We’ll be in touch soon. Keep your phone on you. The next time we call, you will answer or your kid will pay the price.”
Bad guys target Buck after mistaking him to be Bobby’s son.

Summary
In the beginning, it really had been because he craved his parent’s attention. The pain was an easy sacrifice for a taste of the love he craved. A scratch for a pat on the head, a bruise for loving gaze. But it started to evolve. A concussion for a tight hug, a broken bone for a day of sitting at his side. It was worth it, even if the love was as temporary as the pain.
