When Naruto is kidnapped from his orphanage at age three, Kakashi is so done with this shit. He gets Naruto back, tells the Hokage where to go (politely, because he isn't suicidal), and raises the boy himself. Or, you know, tries and is proud when there aren't too many explosions.

“Yeah, sensei, do we pass?” Sasuke dangled the bells from the tip of his finger, a smug grin on his face. He was a bastard, Kakashi decided.
Actually, all of them were. Little shit bastards. Feral goblins. Hellspawn. If it wasn’t Sakura literally changing the landscape of the field underneath Kakashi’s feet, it was Sasuke swinging a sword crackling with lightning, both of them subtly herding him towards Naruto’s hundred shadow-clones, all of which were so fast he could barely track them even with the sharingan.
Kakashi was starting to think his team definitely didn’t have the same problems as the others.

Summary
Haku has only had siblings for a few short months, ever since Kakashi Battle Bonded Zabuza-shishou and brought them to Konoha, made them into a clan. But he adores Naruto and Sakura—and even Sasuke, though the boy is prickly and doesn’t call Haku nii-san the way the other two do—and he is trying. He tries to protect them when he can, tries to be there for them, support them the way he thinks family is supposed to.
He doesn't have much experience being a good older brother, but as he stands in the doorway of the shitty hotel room with Naruto shaking behind him while he stares down Uchiha Itachi, Haku knows this:
He might not have been born into the position, but it has only taken him three months to figure out how to be a better brother than Uchiha Itachi will ever be.

In the wake of everything that happened in Wave, Haku is bewildered and awed to find that he has a home in the Hatake clan, with Zabuza-shishou and Kakashi firmly seeing him as one of theirs. And, well, Haku has always been good at devotion. He takes to his new role as the eldest sibling of their mismatched family like a duck to water.
That doesn't mean he has to like his family's extended relations.

“Fuck ‘em up,” Zabuza says, grinning.
Haku offers his own, softer smile. “Good luck.”

When Zabuza dies in the Land of Waves after Haku's sacrifice and Gato's betrayal only to wake up again at the beginning of the mission, he sees an opportunity to change things. But when all logical paths lead straight to death, Zabuza is forced to make the illogical choice--side with Hatake and hope that just once, he and Haku can make it out of this alive. Kakashi has his own motives for agreeing to an alliance, however, and with so much at stake, both shinobi find themselves far more entangled with each other than either had intended when they set out.
(Haku isn't sure what happened to Zabuza-shishou to make him care so much all of a sudden, but he's not complaining. Naruto & Sakura are already planning the wedding. And Sasuke can't believe his definitely-not-a-family just grew by 2.)
