Alex’s breath caught in her throat. Her blood ran cold.
“You’ve got someone, don’t you?” he continued, his smirk widening. “Someone out there who still gives a damn about Alexandra Cabot? About whether you live or die?”
Alex’s jaw tensed. And suddenly all she could see were warm brown eyes that steadied her racing heart, a soft smile that haunted her dreams, and a familiar voice that somehow always felt like home.
