Grian was starting to go numb.
He didn’t know when it’d started, just that it had. Time was weird like that, in the void. Nothing really felt real. Like a dream that you just pass through, but don’t actually interact with. He knew that time had passed since they’d jumped into the botem hole, but how long he had no clue. It could be all from a week to several months.
It was agony.
Or: in the time between season 8 and 9 Grian discovers something weird in the void.

A heartbroken, guilt-ridden, self-loathing Damon Albarn decides to spend a weekend in the privacy of a country house, alone, with a very well-stocked cache of drugs of all imaginable types. Half daredevil, half death wish, he decides to take them all.
A bit like meditating on the sufferings of Christ in the desert, trying to fight the temptations and tortures of Satan. Only it's Damon Albarn and a life-threatening pile of drugs vs. himself.
Inspired by Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, The Lost Weekend (the film starring Ray Milland), and Dogs in Space, as well as the lyrics, music, and real-life event inspiration for the Blur albums Blur and 13.
This is a work of complete fiction.

Summary
In the midst of capturing a magical creature, Merlin is transported to a world where Camelot is home to thousands of magic-users. King Uther is nowhere to be found, Arthur is a prince again, and Queen Ygraine sits on the throne.
Merlin plans to get back to his own reality, to his own Camelot. To do that, however, he must have access to information that is inside a shielded castle protected by powerful sorcerers. The only way in is to participate in the Apprentice Exam and be an apprentice to a magic-user included in Camelot's court. Should be easy . . . right?
Conspiracies are afoot and Merlin just knows that, somehow, he is or will be involved. Just his luck.

There's a story Cassandra heard once, about a boy made out of wood. He wanted something like this, too.
