“Maddie?” It was silent over the line for a long moment—too long—and Eddie shifted forwards, throat tight. What was going on? Why– “Maddie?”
A sob cut through the silence, a choked, broken sound, and Eddie could feel the way his breath got trapped in his chest. He’d been at Maddie’s side when Buck was struck by lightning, when she found him after the tsunami, when she barreled into his hospital room after the ladder truck crushed his leg, when they found Chim on their wedding day, and– and he’d never heard her sound like that. “Maddie, what–”
“They got Buck. Buck’s gone. They took him, they took Evan.”
The world stopped. And it didn’t keep turning. Because– Buck.
“What?” His voice sounded faint to his own ears, cracked, broken, shattered, and Chris jerked to look at him again, dropping the blankets clenched in his fists and turning to face him as his feet slid off the couch to the floor. Fear shone in his eyes, and– and Eddie’d forgotten how well he could read his reactions now.

Summary
His face was completely white, a glazed look in his eyes and swaying on the spot. “Buck?” Athena presses, and Buck seems to try and find her, eyes darting around but never fully focusing on her.
“T-Thena-“ His voice is weak, hesitant. “I-I-“ Athena sees it happen, his face scrunching up and then he’s doubling over, vomiting up on the floor.
“We need help!” Athena shouts, rushing over to Buck. Red splatters on the ground, Buck was vomiting up blood. Before she can get to him, Buck’s legs crumble from underneath him. His eyes roll in the back of his head and he falls to the ground.
Or: Buck is injured badly during the bridge collapse and doesn't notice until they get to the hospital

Summary
The Buckley siblings were just trying to have a nice holiday, a bit of sibling bonding time away from the chaos of LA, unfortunately the universe has other plans.
Towards the end of a ten hour flight to England flight BA268 disappears, and Buck and Maddie just so happen to be on the passenger manifest.

The cabin crew began yelling “Brace, brace, head down, stay down. Brace, brace, head down, stay down.”
Buck hadn’t been scared of much in his life, he was an adrenaline junkie, he ran into burning buildings for a living. But this? This was probably the most scared he’d ever been. Usually he had control, usually he knew what he was doing. He chose to go up that ladder, he chose to run into burning buildings, he chose to tempt fate. But right now he was in a huge metal coffin falling from 12,510 metres towards the Atlantic ocean, and he had no control whatsoever.
He pulled his phone out and opened the group chat he had with Hen, Eddie, Chimney, Bobby and Athena, “plane going down im sorry i love you” and hit send.

“Jackson.” God, even Diaz’s voice was gorgeous. Smoother and more addictive than the richest chocolate lava cake could even hope to be. What an asshole. Just showing up and being so…perfect. Like it was nothing. How dare he, actually? “Who’s the new guy?”
“This is Buckley, number eight.” Billy reached up to clap Evan on the shoulder, “Our new running back from fucking Pennsylvania. Can you believe we’ve got a Yankee on our team?” The rest of the group laughed. Evan flushed, shifting his weight as Diaz’s mouth folded into a bitchy little moue of distaste he didn’t even bother to hide.

When the Buckleys have finally had enough of their son acting out for attention, they ship him off to a relative's El Paso ranch to force him to shape up. Working for his room and board is more exhausting than he could have imagined. Worse, when his work doesn't meet the impossible standards he doesn't get fed.
Eddie's immediately has a soft spot for the new guy who had to transfer all the way across the country for his senior year. But it quickly becomes apparent that something is very wrong with Buck.
