Penelope got to know him as Dirk – a strange being tells her, his name is Desmond.
It told her that she could help him by collecting energy, give him a third choice, and should she fail there were no repercussions for her. Flying around in a bird’s body for a little while didn’t sound too bad, weren’t it for the fact that she totally miscalculated just how far she would be sent back in time and how much chaos Those Who Came Before could create.
