Both had much more mellow tempers at the moment, their emotions mixing and melting into a buzzing mush. They didn’t have the energy to bicker and fight like they usually did. Instead, they allowed space for a new feeling, one that ignored their pre-existing relationship and instead focused on the little things. Heartbeats, skin, hair, feather-light touches, claws softly grazing the surface, eye contacts that lasted just a touch too long.

Once upon a time, in a prosperous kingdom by the sea, a young prince walked along the shorelines. He looked around for some time, staring at the sea while glancing back to the castle every now and then, until he saw bubbles. He rushed over, the nearby water forming halos along his path.
The boy barely stepped in the water, not enough to soak through his shoes, just enough to send a message through those halos.
“It is safe.”
And out came a boy from the water, or so you would assume without seeing under the surface.
“A mermaid.” his father told him it was as he read a story book. “Though you mustn’t ever approach those creatures! Their goal is to lure humans in the sea and eat them.”

This story happens in about the course of a day. Eight-year-old Vax has just learned that he can teleport, and Vox is ecstatic… until Vax disappears. And now, the world is aware of his existence, Vox is falling apart, and Vax finds himself at a certain famous hotel...
Based on who’s currently at the hotel, this seems to happen around the start of season two, albeit in an AU where Vax exists. Vox and Val are still bad people, but they care about their kid. Alastor is a petty bastard. Vax is adorable.
