Summary
The day Vincent moved, they spent the evening putting together Ikea furniture while listening to Latin music, and laughing at how difficult it is for two grown adults with PhDs to assemble a couch. When everything was set up, Vincent opened a bottle of wine that had been gifted to him after the election, and they spent several hours discussing the romantic implications of Gilgamesh’s quest for immortality after the death of Enkidu.

Summary
Thomas shifted slowly, hauling himself upright on shaky hands to rest his head against Vincent’s shoulder, staving off the wave of vertigo with a groan. His head was curled up into Vincent’s collar as they sat on the cold marble floor, lit by the faraway light of a bedside lamp. Vincent ran a gentle hand across Thomas’s back in smoothing circles, whispering calming words into his ear as he held Thomas close to his chest.
Thomas’s breath hitched with the stress of the early hour: overwhelmed, in pain, and utterly miserable. The burning tears began to fall. Vincent stroked a hand down Thomas’s face, attempting to dry his tears with gentle fingers until his hand grew damp from the falling tears.
“I’m here now, I’m here. I won’t leave you. I’m right here, mi amor.”
[Or; Thomas is taken ill in the night. Vincent looks after him. Domesticity ensues.]

He may never have been allowed to be an Englishman, but Francis Crozier proved to be a man made for the Arctic.
Whilst James’ own body failed him utterly at the moment he had greatest need of it, Francis bloomed as much as a man could under the effects of scurvy and suspected lead poisoning. Who could say if it was the drying out, or the constant exercise, or some innate property of Francis himself that drew forth in the presence of wrecked and desperate men. The man still had all of his goddamn teeth, which James found particularly vexing. But for as long as they were on the ice, Francis’ color was high and he threw himself into the harness with vigor - which made what followed their return to English soil all the more worrisome.
