Summary
It's a simple proposition: Agatha Harkness, heir to a small branch of the old but faded Salemite coven, will be handfasted for two years and two months to Rio Vidal, heir to the noble First Coven. Hopefully in that time the two will produce at least one child to be heir to both covens, and when the time has passed, they can choose to remain together or part and co-parent. If and when their child outlives them, Agatha's coven—like many before—will be absorbed into the First and the child will be the leader of the most powerful and ancient coven in the world.
Of course, thanks to her mother, Agatha has little say in the matter, but she comforts herself with knowing the handfast will be short in duration. Once she meets her intended, however, she begins to have thoughts of a more permanent nature.
