“Good news- I can definitely see ghosts.” Izuku weakly explained. “Bad news- I might’ve underestimated how pissed off the ghost is.”
“You don’t say?” Katsuki couldn’t see the ghost, but he could see Izuku staring at a fixed spot as well and how the peeling wall paper started shuddering as the heavy feeling grew. “You’re the one who researched- how the fuck do we fight it?”
“I-”
The door slammed open again, blasting the ghost woman toward them. Izuku grabbed Katsuki’s arm in a tight grip, partly to make sure he stayed inside the salt circle and partly to keep himself from reeling back outside the circle himself.
Izuku hadn’t needed to know that her skin was more translucent than the bones he could see through it. Just as scary was the newest person to come to the party- a man in all black, whose equally dark hair whipped even more ferociously.
Through the ghost, Izuku saw the man’s eyes burn an even brighter, angrier red. Then he lost track of the plot what the ghost shrieked with a level of vitriol that had him doubled over in pain. When he could look up again, the ghost woman was gone.
The ghost man- now armed with a scythe- still remained.

NO LONGER ON HIATUS
“WHAT in the FUCK is that?” The horrified voice that carried over the general quiet chatter of the rest of the bar’s patrons came from someone near the door, but it could’ve come from any of them.
Every occupant in the large main room shared the sentiment as they stared at the man? Zombie? Thing that somehow still had orange hair clinking to it’s head shuffled through the front door. The skin on it’s arms and hands was entirely decomposed, leaving the bones to clack against each other ominously while it’s brown, leathery skin creaked with each movement. The only reason the latter was even audible was because the entire bar had gone completely silent.
“Who the hell sent a bog body here?” A woman with a mutation quirk- she had the head of an aardvark- finally recognized the body for what it was. It was a valid question- the bar wasn’t just any seedy dive bar, it was no man’s land. A place where anyone, regardless of what side of the law they fell on, could meet up with no (or at least very little) fear of attack or reprisal. Anyone who used their quirks (mutation quirks or quirks required to live excluded) or tried to start a fight was met with swift, violent consequences.

“I think you should teach me the portal spell.” Izuku chirped at Shouta over a plate of congratulatory katsudon that evening.
“I think you should rest and recuperate after the sports festival.” Hizashi immediately put the stop to that- he knew firsthand how draining the festival was and how draining learning new spells, especially ones as complicated as that one, was from Shouta.
“Pretty sure if Katsuki was here, he’d be calling him the energizer bunny.” Shouta calmly answered, taking a bite from his own plate of food. Katsuki had returned home after the boys woke up from their nap after a text from his father. They were monitoring the situation as much as they could; no doubt the Bakugo household was about to have an interesting night. “Zashi, you owe me a date.”
“I’m sorry, what was that?” Izuku switched tracks, but only temporarily. He narrowed his eyes at his parents. “Did you seriously bet on me winning the festival?” He didn’t know whether to be proud or annoyed. Both might work.
“Their friends are bad influences.” Was all Shouta had to say on the matter.

Their face sports that redness you so favor, and you feel a little proud of yourself that you’ve managed to work them up like this with merely a simple proposal. “Let’s do it.”

Summary
The old legends about humans taking selkies captive by stealing their skins was accurate- they couldn’t return to the sea without their pelts. That made it good news that Hizashi had his pelt back, he wasn’t being held captive accidentally or otherwise.
The bad news was that selkies traditionally exchanged pelts as a marriage tradition. They gave them back, of course, or they’d both be trapped above the water, but what was important was touching each other and the pelts at the same time. It was old magic and Hizashi wasn’t exactly sure how it worked, but it joined the two together for life in a far more concrete way than simple human marriage certificates ever could.
“Hizashi?” Concern colored Nemuri’s voice as she peered at him over her glasses (their eyesight was one of the last things to adjust to being fully on land- they were both wearing cheap drug store reading glasses). “What happened? He didn’t-”
Hizashi nodded, cutting her question off. He very much had.
“Shit.” Nem breathed out, eyes wide. “You might be fucked.” A wild voice deep in Hizashi’s subconscious almost had him responding that that was the best case scenario.

Summary
The prince was tall, with long, blonde hair that cascaded from a half bun around his pointy ears and well past his shoulders. His hair wasn’t braided like most of the elves he’d seen so far, but he was making up for it with a lot more jewelry, ornate gold rings, necklaces that peeked out from under the deep slit in his linen shirt, and a little clasp hooked onto one of his ears that had some sort of green gem hanging from it. Even his half rim glasses were gold, as was the chain that hung from them back around his neck.
Unsurprisingly, his clothes were also exceedingly high quality. Shouta couldn’t tell what color his fancy poofy shirt was in the slightly darkening light, but there was definitely a tint to it. It buttoned at the wrists with more green gems and was tucked into high-waisted black pants, which were tucked into deer skin boots. That was interesting- as far as he knew elves didn’t make use, any use, of animal products. But he’d heard that from the village, so maybe they were wrong?
The pain was definitely getting to Shouta- he didn’t realize his brain was starting to wander or that he’d missed his chance to escape until he found himself meeting the prince’s startlingly green eyes.

He was still sore in a few places (all over), but the pain didn’t hold a candle to the agony from earlier. It wouldn’t have mattered if it did; he had bigger priorities to see to. “Izu, are you okay?”
“I’m fine.” Izuku promised the ancient as he hopped off the bed to give his son a once over himself.

“You’re part of the staff now.” Hizashi oh-so-helpfully reminded his husband.
“Yes,” Shouta partially capitulated, “but I’m teaching history, not heroics. I don’t even know anything about heroics, so I don’t know why I’m watching the practical anyways; it’s not like I can weigh in on anything. Might as well be entertained.” Izuku snorted at that, then promptly turned back to getting ready for the entrance exam when Hizashi moved from Unimpressed at Shouta to Unimpressed with him.
“You need to be aware if any of the students are sorcerers, or at least using sorcery instead of quirks.” Hizashi turned back to the grumpy, equally unimpressed Shouta. He had to wake up early for this, and he was pretty sure it was only because Nedzu wanted to gossip like old men. Just because Shouta was as old as he was didn’t mean he appreciated his new boss pulling him out of bed early for that reason.

“Remind me why I agreed to this?” Shouta muttered to Hizashi as they, Izuku, and Katsuki waited for everyone to join them at the head of the trail.
“Because it’ll be fun!” Hizashi made sure their voice was Extra Cheerful, partially to troll their soon-to-be-husband and partially just because they were excited. The whole family was ready for a night of ‘ghost hunting-’ really just running around in the woods at this point, the teens had all mostly moved on from wanting to be true blue ghost hunters as their career.
Honestly, they’d already been moving in that direction when Shouta and Izuku first encountered them in the woods; teenagers were gonna teenage and go through about a million phases. It was good for them to explore though, and they’d picked up a lot about safety when hiking and urban exploring, various forms of technology, and Hitoshi got really into video editing as a consequence too.
If widening their horizons and developing a love of nature were the lasting consequences, none of the adults were particularly upset about it.

“Izu.” Hitoshi’s eyes glittered as he drew his brother’s attention. “It’s time.” He intoned.
“Time for what?” Kyoka asked, instantly suspicious. She loved Hitoshi, but everyone who thought he was the calmer/better behaved of the two was wrong. He just had a higher tolerance for people’s bullshit than Izuku did.
“It’s almost like you don’t trust me.” Hitoshi grinned, pulling out his phone again. “Just watch this.”
Eri couldn’t accompany the rest of the family to the school to wish everyone luck in person, so they did the next best thing and recorded her to show the rest of the friend group.
Everyone. Immediately. Melted.
“Awww, Eri!” Toru immediately sniffled. “I would take a bullet for her.”
“As you should.” The other five said as one. It was a common call and refrain for them; Eri was simply the most precious child to ever exist.
“We must do our best today!” Tenya declared, arms as choppy as ever. “For ourselves, our mentors, and Eri!”
“For Eri!” The other five agreed, startling most of the middle schoolers milling around behind them. None of them noticed the way a particular blonde’s eyes widened when he glanced over at the commotion.

Shouta wanted to polish those skills, but Hizashi put his foot down on taking Izuku into the cityscapes before he was sure the kid had a solid grasp on the basics. The voice pro knew it was more or less an unfounded concern- Shouta would never let Izuku go splat, get a little bruised and battered so he could actually learn yes, but not go splat- but as mom he felt he was entitled to one (1) unreasonable concern.
“Really?” Izuku wasn’t that impressed with the argument, but Shouta just nodded, already forming another point of attack. If he couldn’t take Izuku up a building yet, he’d just take him rock climbing. Kaina even had a membership that let her take guests at a pro-only gym that had a better rock wall setup than UA did, and she’d been practically begging to be let in on training her precious little nephew.
“I just can’t believe our precious baby boy is growing up!” She dramatically (and loudly) cried once Shouta and Izuku were actually able to meet her at the gym. “Didn’t I make you promise to stop growing on me? Every time I turn around I feel like you and Toshi have sprouted up another six inches!”
“Our?” Shouta raised an eyebrow at his mentor-turned-friend’s antics.

“Okay, I need everyone to listen up please.” Miki got the class’s attention. “We need to talk about the Annual Talent Show! This is the last one you’ll put on as elementary schoolers, so we gotta make it a good one!” Not for the first time, he found himself glad that Somei had it’s teachers stay with the class through both the elementary and middle school years (he was also glad he’d stayed in school the extra years to get his certification in both areas, giving him the opportunity to teach in school systems like this).
“We should perform a song this year.” Kyoka immediately turned to the friend group, the same way she did every year. So far though, they’d always turned that down and ended up doing something else. This year though, she finally got her wish when Hitoshi nodded and said he thought that might be fun.“Really?” She blinked at him, honestly taken by surprise. Usually the Yamazawas were… less enthused with either potentially singing or potentially being seen by that many eyes.
“Yeah.” Hitoshi nodded. “You keep telling me my poetry is good for music, I think it’s time to put up or shut up.”
