I had held off reading this, then started on a day when I wasn't feeling well. Probably too much angst on a sick day? But it's so good! I love Yuri plus Yuuri's slowly and painfully developing friendship, and I like a complicated Phichit.
Oh, and the second part, Redemption, is even better. "Late at night is a terrible time: the mind is half asleep and the little bit that makes logical decisions isn’t awake at all."

Clever reimagining, wonderfully written characters, Yuuri in therapy. Lilia and Yuuri have the best relationship. Viktor is darling.

Summary
This is a direct sequel to my fic "The Longest Hours." You can jump in here if you want, but if you do, you need to know:
1). In the first fic, both Viktor and Yuuri were suicidal post-Sochi GPF and met each other on the hotel roof, where they talked each other out of jumping
2). Yuuri was supposed to be on a medication that got left behind in Detroit and was experiencing withdrawal symptoms, which contributed to his suicidal state.
3). Viktor is very in the closet because Russian homophobia is a real and dangerous thing in this AU.
4). Viktor's tragic backstory is a thing. TL;DR: his mother tried to kill him and then killed herself when he was 12, and he was disowned by his father at 19 for getting involved with another man.
5). Those two things combined let Vitya to his suicidal state.
6). They fall in love quickly, even if they don't call it that for a long time.I'd be happiest if you gave the first part a glance before this, though. I worked really hard on it!
