“We didn’t— like— we didn’t sign anything,” Tang protests, stumbling over his own words, almost like he’s trying to convince himself. “No adoption papers or — a-anything. We’re not his dads. Nothing is legally confirmed, y’know? He didn’t come from us, we didn’t adopt him, he doesn’t— we’re not his dads.”
He laughs, and feels a little bit mad.

Tang had the best idea.
It was dangerous. Life-threatening, even. Ah, but wasn’t he supposed to be developing into less of a coward? He was destined to try this.
He leaned against the counter of Pigsy’s Noodles, watching Pigsy stir a pot of fresh broth. Pigsy’s back was to Tang, determined to ignore Tang the way someone would ignore a begging dog.
Well. Tang would show him.
Sniffing, Tang drummed his fingers on his countertop. “That’s odd,” he commented.
Pigsy didn’t even bother to turn his head. “What’s odd?”
“It’s your broth.” Tang frowned. “Oh dear, I think the flavor may be off.”
Pigsy gasped. He raised the ladle to his own lips, sipping off of it. “You’re out of your mind, it’s perfect as always! Pah. Me, making anything subpar?”
It pained him to lie. “No no, I really think it’s not got enough salt,” insisted Tang.
“Oh, and you think you can tell by your sense of smell?” Pigsy slopped noodles, broth, vegetables, and beef into the dish, managing to not spill a drop. He shoved it down the counter at Tang. “How’s it feel to be wrong, Tang?”
Tang barely kept his joyful reaction under wraps. All according to plan.

Summary
Tang has never felt this level of agony before in his life.
Sure, he’d been in more than a few rough and tumble situations that led to a concerning amount of bleeding wounds or broken ribs (he had Macaque to thank for those) but he’d never suffered the worst of the worst at the end of the day. Usually the big, concerning, life and death injuries were collected by Mei, MK and the Monkey King. Pigsy and Sandy also took their fair share of hard hits over the course of their adventures.
Tang knew he was likely to get in the way of their brawls and typically tried to stay to the sidelines as much as he could while still putting on the mask of “kick ass scholar support with mystic magic”.Apparently, his slim streak of luck has run out and whatever form of fate existed, decided he needed to speedrun catching up with his friends on the ‘feeling immense pain’ side of things.

There's not nearly enough Tang angst for my taste so I made some. Tang enjoyers rejoice.

He doesn't wanna make anyone upset (and gosh, he hates being yelled at) but before his mind can go further into the depths of regret, she smiles.
