"Alan had previously thought that a bad leg day was one where Jack was more of a grumpy old git than usual and he actually used his stick for what it was meant for instead of as a bloody ornament or something to poke magic in the direction of Alan (though he knew now that sometimes a day started fine and required a cane later on). Those were apparently just days that were a matter of course.
No, a real bad leg day was this. Stuck in bed. So much pain he wouldn’t see anyone, not even if they just wanted to bring him medicine or food or water. If anyone tried, he started throwing things.
