UPDATE (july 2025): This fic was supposed to have an epilogue but because I have since left the fandom and I have zero interest in writing it, it has been cut. But don't worry! The epilogue was more of a 'ten years later' thing and has zero effect on the main plot of the story so I wouldn't consider this an abandoned fic. It doesn't end on some big cliffhanger or anything so if you still want to read it, you won't be left high and dry after twenty four chapters lol

Summary
It has been 4 years since the Upside Down was destroyed and with it the girl Mike loved more than anything. The theory that she survived and is living in peace keeps him going, inspired to write her story disguised as a simple fantasy novel. He stays in contact with the party that has been spread out, but he is alone most of the time, spending his days at his typewriter.
El has managed to find peace in Iceland, making new friends and living without the threat of captivity under a different name, but something is missing in her life ever since she said goodbye to the boy she loved more than anything. She always thinks about her previous life in Hawkins, writing letters to them that she will never send.
One day, El walks into the bookstore and notices a familiar name on the cover of a bestselling fantasy novel. "The Storyteller and the Mage" it was called. And this version had the happily ever after they both had wanted.
Maybe it was still possible. Maybe Mike could write the ending after all. El just did not know how possible it was.

“Maybe that’s my excuse then,” Sirius said. “I cause a bit of chaos now, and maybe one day, it’ll turn into rock and roll.”After losing his mother at age eleven, Remus has spent the better part of the last four years bouncing from school to school or else running around London and pretending as though he wasn't the kind of well-bred boy his father brought him up to be. Now, with his chances all run out, Remus is sent to Hawkings Independent School as a last-ditch effort to clean up his act. There he meets the very people who will set up the rest of his life, and is forced to confront the pieces of himself he'd long thought had been lost.
