"Very well,” she said. “Marry me, Camilla.”
A vicious spit-take on Gideon’s part translated to one exceptionally high eyebrow in Cam, but nothing more.
“Like I said,” Cam began carefully, “I’m married to Dulcie, and unfortunately, polyamory is not recognized under the UCMJ. I can’t marry you without her losing her benefits.”
Then, because Cam was the absolute worst, she shrugged and said, offhandedly,
“Why don’t you marry Gideon?”- or -
Harrow needs health insurance, and Gideon needs Harrow (to not be a dick.) What better way to provide for them both than a little light fraud between frenemies?

Gideon is convinced that if her and Harrow just said "fuck it" and banged it out, the weird tension that exists between them would finally be resolved; so, she created a totally simple, not at all convoluted, multi-step plan to seduce Harrow. It was going really well, too, until Harrow promised to make out with her if she attended their organic chemistry study group each week.
Not that Gideon was complaining about the kissing or anything. It was just now things were getting emotionally messy and their dynamic was slowly but surely developing into something complicated. And she had to read a fucking textbook.
(This is a retelling of my other fic, We Have Chemistry, from Gideon's POV. It contains enough new scenes that it should be interesting to people who have already read WHC and enough repeated scenes that those who haven't read WHC will still be able to enjoy this!)

This story is warm and charming, it's very much like sitting in a puddle of sunlight on a warm spring day.
The characterization of the characters is on point, they feel exactly at home in their new setting without being over or under dramatized. Their canonical dynamics are transposed onto the new setting beautifully with stakes fitting to the story but with the same emotional weight.
A gem of an AU. Once it is completed I will be saving it and printing it off because I treasure it. -

Amazing fic! Completely heartfelt and rich despite (or perhaps because of) the delightfully silly concept. Like all good modern-AUs, this fic takes the canonical character relationships and motivations and transposed them onto believable people who you could run into on the street with thoughts and dreams which fit well with the setting.
It is delightful and I cannot recommend it more!

I hardly know him!’ and then Palamedes said ‘stop interrupting, and we don’t know anyone named Tate.’ Palamedes says I’m getting off topic again. Anyway, Palamedes is writing for me because I can’t. I don’t understand why that’s so important, but Palamedes says not disclosing that information is a serious breach of academic integrity. I don’t know what that means, but apparently you will, and you’ll think it’s important.

"Good?" came her voice, loud and slurry with sleep.
"Mmm," Harrow reassured, knowing this for a false awakening. Gideon always slept well, after.
"Mhmhmmhm. Took care'a you good," she chuckled with sleepy lechery.
Harrow huffed, the echo of exasperation wrapping a painful fondness. "Nav, go back to sleep."
