Everyone had heard the warning Ambrosius had spoken. Everyone assumed the consequences for taking a tumble off the golden brick roads sufficiently dire to warrant them. Not a single one of them were prepared for the ramifications, nor could they be expected to. Death was always the shadow on their heels; nobody hunted the Grimm with anything less than certainty that their life could end with one mistake. A brief detour into another dimension would probably have been an unenviable fate, but a survivable one that did not greatly subvert the status quo.
This is not that story.

For Ruby and Weiss, their bond is their strength and solace, but it is also a mess. A beautiful, complicated tangle of blurred lines and the vaguest of boundaries, welded together in the fires of hardship. Strong and true, but messy all the same. ‘What are they?’ is not an easy question for them to answer, and scarier yet to ask. Partners? Best friends? Kindred souls? Or all of those, and something more? A comfortable status quo — but is comfort all that the heart truly desires?
