From the time they were little, when he presented Ed with the first tiny bird he’d successfully transmuted, he always seemed to instinctively know what Ed wanted or needed the most. Sure, for the last few years it’s mostly been practical. A new coat after he’d singed his old one beyond any hope of repair, or the good oil for his automail when he’d left his on a train station bench. That sort of thing.
