Summary
Lakan has no earthly idea what possessed him to come to the garden party, but some star smiled upon him indeed. There is but one living face in the world for Lakan to see and, though she has grown greatly since last he saw her, there is no mistaking his daughter sitting behind the honored consort. It nearly breaks his heart just to see her: in formal garb she looks every inch her mother’s daughter, down to the cunning expression on her face. She looks into her bowl as her mother would look at a gaming table, seeing many moves into the future. So he is not surprised when she announces the meal is poisoned, for he was already out of his chair when she decided to drink it.
How would the story change if Lakan had attended the spring party and seen his daughter in the Rear Palace? How does his persistence change Maomao's view of herself, the world, and her place in it? A story in which Jinshi is not as subtle as he thinks he is, but that's okay because Maomao would rather drink poison than commit a single moment's self-reflection.

Getting to where they were had been a long process for Adrien. Of course, when Ladybug had first insisted they were going to be platonic and that was that, it wasn’t like he could process it, fully, with anyone but Plagg. Thankfully, his friends had been there for him, even if he had to make up excuses for why he couldn’t explain all his heartache to them. More than anyone else, Marinette had been his steadfast rock and, in the process, she had become something more. As loath as he was to admit it, Adrien had put Ladybug on a pedestal, and that wasn’t something that would make a great foundation for a relationship. It wasn’t that he didn’t think the world of Marinette, because he did, but she was human in a way that Ladybug couldn’t be.

Pouring the steamed milk with his practiced, signature spiral, Sanji steps up to the counter with the finished product. “One Lavender sedative for the Mosshead,” the witch prompts with a wink; Zoro snorting indignantly at the nickname.
Their hands brush in the transfer and the blond finds himself lingering on demonfolk’s fingers, the digits dark black, as if dipped in charcoal, and searingly warm to the touch.
If Zoro notices, he doesn’t mention it. The man instead glancing between the swirl in the coffee to the curl of the witch’s eyebrow before smirking, “Thanks Curly,” he says, tipping his chin up in a nod After a moment of lingering amusement, the demonfolk turns and heads to the far corner of the cafe.
Sanji watches him go with a frown, his fingertips tingling and a furious blush warming his ears.
What a bastard.
