Zhenya was sitting on his balcony with his laptop on the side table, eating a burger and watching seagulls squabble on the riprap. “What’s birding,” he said absently, as one gull lifted its wings overhead, raised its rear end, and took a stringy white shit.

It’s not until Sid opens the door that it really clicks for Mitch.
“I thought we were all rooming alone in the hotel.” He mumbles, scratching at his sorry excuse for a beard as he takes in the ginormous bed. There are two labelled bags stacked neatly at the end. 87 and 29.
Sid and Nate exchange another glance.
“Oh,” Mitch mumbles, the realisation finally dawning on him. Sid and Nate are rooming together because they are together.

“Tonight only. One night. You can.” Malkin says, and Nate’s stomach feels like it’s going to fall out of his ass.
“What.” It isn’t a question. His brain is spinning. Feverish. There’s no way Malkin means what Nate’s grasping greedy mind leaped to.
“I’ll let you.” Malkin continues, “Just this one time. You can say I gave permission. You understand this?”
Nate’s mouth is dry.
“If this is your idea of a joke—“
“Is most serious I have ever been. Say thank you, MacKinnon.”
