Disclaimer: Oooh we have a badass here. *winces*. This was the first story I ever wrote, (in 2003) and it's the only one of my Henneth-Annun Story Archive stories not somewhere else on the internet. As that archive is due to close, I'm reposting it here, for old times' sake.
The horrible thing is, I still like it, even after all this time, even though it's so rough it could be used to sand walls (and swearing elves aren't nearly as big and clever as I thought back then), because Maedhros' cussed insolence is kind of endearing, to me at least.
So once more, for old time's sake - Maedhros Nelyafinwe telling it like it is, bitter, foul-mouthed and unexpectedly alive.

Summary
While I work on the longer Ecthelion/Glorfindel stories, my brain will ever so often, boil over and dump out a vignette or two.
Now, I am dropping them all over here. Most are (meant to be) humour, although Alqualonde Days -- which is a complete, self-indulgent story, actually -- is not. Small caveat: they will all make more sense to readers already familiar with my takes on these characters.
The latest addition is incredibly sentimental.

Summary
The Silmarillion is so full of heartbreaking, wasteful, tragic deaths that it sometimes seems as if the not-tragically-deadly parts of the narrative are there only to give the readers a little breather.
I expect that everyone has a death or two that they find particularly distressing. Amarië certainly does. But at least she can do something about it...

The city of Gondolin is at peace, and yet several of its citizens harbour resentments, ambitions, and unnatural desires: Maeglin longs to assume his rightful position as Turgon's heir and Idril's spouse; Salgant hopes to avenge himself for past humiliations; and Ecthelion and Glorfindel indulge in deception even as they devote their lives to duty.
Many secrets will be revealed, but only slowly and with much confusion, in this comedy of misunderstandings.
