Summary
In 2015, when Max first joined F1 as a fresh-faced rookie, the pack shut him out because of the wrongness and temperament that existed on him like a second skin. In 2025, Max has mellowed out and the pack, specifically the rookies, begin coming to him. Whether they are tired, angry, hurting, or unsure, Max never says no. He doesn’t weigh the risks of involving himself with a pack that doesn't claim him; he only registers that someone needs something, and that he knows how to give.
Layered on that, Max has a secret that the pack doesn’t know nor understand but they begin to circle it. It lives in the way he goes still when certain voices drop, in how his eyes glaze when praise lands too heavy, in how he never asks for anything and how every so often he'll disappear and return as a ghost.

Summary

Lance doesn’t know which of his emotions is more overpowering; the secondhand embarrassment he feels at how blatantly obvious they’re being, or the fact that watching Max and Charles in their own little world is actually kind of cute.
He realizes it’s the secondhand embarrassment as he watches Max shamelessly grin at James and proudly explain that he was just talking to Charles.
Lance has to resist the urge to roll his eyes, especially when he notices how Charles is quite literally the embodiment of the heart eyes emoji where he’s standing next to Max for his entire interview. And the beeline Charles makes for Max as soon as he hands the microphone to Lance after his P2 interview is even worse than the heart eyes.
He definitely should have been paying attention to that group chat, Jesus fucking Christ.

2025 marks an official decade of Max Verstappen driving in Formula One, and after the near-disaster that 2024 seemed to be, the break was much needed. Max adjusted his glasses, a sigh already passing his lips as he adjusted himself on the couch, legs thrown onto Charles’ lap like they belonged there – they did.
“Ah, yes, Cheri, make yourself at home,” his boyfriend says jokingly, Charles’ hand coming to rest on the bones of Max’s ankle, the warmth of him grounding and comforting. Home.
“I deserve it, I’m practically an old man now, plus all the karting we did as kids? I’m surprised I’ve survived this long.” Max says, settling himself further into the plush couch, Jimmy and Sassy lounging next to them.

After revealing the truth about Jericho Dick leaves the Titans (He's sort of forced out, it's a grey area) and he returns alone to Bludhaven. Jason the lost duckling (robin) that he is, follows him.
