Summary
Dean and Cas have been next-door neighbors and best friends since they were both four years old. They've been through everything together. Cas was there for Dean when his mother died, and his father started going off the rails. Dean was there for Cas while he came to terms with his sexuality and came out to his religious family.
Now they’re both eighteen and Cas is secretly, hopelessly in love with Dean. After years of ignoring his burgeoning feelings, Cas finds the courage to come clean just before he moves across the country to attend college in California. Determined, Cas pours his feelings out into a letter and leaves it for Dean to find.
It isn't until eight years later that Dean finally receives the letter, and that single sheet of yellowed notebook paper turns his entire world upside down.

Summary
Dean and Sam have had a tough year. Their dad died, leaving them parentless, and Dean has had to pick up the slack to make sure his little brother is fed, clothed, and has a roof over his head. To say that Dean is not in the Christmas spirit this year is an understatement.
That is, until Dean gets a secret Santa who wants nothing more than to make the brothers' Christmas a cheerful one. The mysterious gift-giver apparently plans to do that with twelve days of cheesy poems, dorky activities, and, okay, some actually really nice presents.
Dean hates to admit it but before the twelve days of Christmas are over his mood is effectively turned around. The only thing is, he's pretty sure his secret Santa is actually more of a secret admirer. It could be anyone from the Roadhouse trivia teams but there is only one person he wants it to be - his brown-haired, blue-eyed, oh-so-sexy best friend who has been there for him through everything and who he has a major, secret crush on.
Inspired by the classic Christmas carol "The Twelve Days of Christmas".

Her head snaps up, eyes narrowed as her lips curl into a snarl. “No shit? I thought this was a public fucking park.”
Joel levels a glare at the kid as he loads the washer. “It ain’t. These machines are for residents, not runaways.”
“I’m not a fucking runaway,” she snaps, squaring her shoulders and drawing her backpack closer. “And I am a resident. Kid of the week for the Jenkins. You know, the people who live in 3E?”
“And the Jenkins have you down here doin’ laundry after school every day?” he asks with incredulity.
She glances around the room, a uniquely teenage disdain in her sneer as she surveys the silent machines. “Obviously.”

Joel Miller, the virtually unreadable and perpetually grumpy bodyguard assigned to watch her for eighteen hours a day, certainly thinks she's doing a good job of it. But as Ellie processes losses of her past and present, she slowly begins to realise just how valuable it can be to have someone watching your back.

Joel sighs, runs his hand wearily over his face. “Baby,” he says, and despite herself, Ellie feels her shoulders relax at the nickname. “This - it’s a threat against all of us. It’s not something we can let lie.”
“I’m not telling you to just let it lie,” Ellie retorts. “Just- why does it have to be you?”
Joel looks away, shifts on his feet. “Ellie,” he says, and the timbre of his voice rakes a claw down her spine. “You know why.”
She does, and that’s the thing- she’s not sure she’s worth it, this kind of love that goes blind with rage in the face of threats, the kind of love that drives people out of their homes and into the night and away from their families. The kind of love that demands sacrifice. It sits uneasily beneath her skin, like an electric current.
