Phil blinks, long and slow. It’s his version of a blank, disappointed stare. Techno’s the one who slowly blinks as a smile — like a cat. “Wil, I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again,” he gently warns. “You’re going to get yourself killed with this shit, only the tides themselves know how you’ve managed not to die yet — quite frankly, you’re beloved by the currents.”
Tommy is confused before remembering that phrase basically means ‘you’re lucky as fuck but you won’t stay that lucky forever.’ “Not to agree with glowy-gills,” he ignores Phil’s indignant warbling to glare at Wilbur. “But you are a dumbass for that. Techno and Phil have real jobs but I’m literally a good luck charm.”
“You’re also a mascot!” Wilbur cheers.
Tommy waits for someone to protest.
No protests arrive.
He blinks, a horrible realization on the horizon. “I’m not a mascot,” he says. “I’m a freeloading good luck charm.”
