    Summary

When they arrive, he fishes the key out of the lockbox, entering the code. They’re staying in the basement of the house– his aunt’s request, to avoid having to clean the entire house. Shoko doesn’t say anything– often she forgets just how far the Gojo family's wealth extends, Swiss bank accounts, designer watches. Vacation homes. They head down the stairs, and Satoru is abhorred to find that the basement, which stands alone from the rest of the house as a self-contained apartment, is a one-bed. His hands clam up, and he feels sheepish. Terrified that Shoko would feel uncomfortable. He could sleep on the couch– he wouldn’t mind doing that.

“Shoko– I didn’t mean,” He says. “I can call my aunt and see if we can get a key for the upstairs–”

    Shoko waved him off.

“It’s okay– we can just share,”

He reached forward, his trepidation quickly replaced by quiet confidence. He ran his fingers across the area by which Shoko had tucked the end of her towel, slightly above her breasts. Gently, he unfurled it, letting the towel fall into her lap, once again revealing her splendid chest, her skin now slightly tanned upon being showered in gentle kisses from the sun. Both of their glasses of wine remained untouched on the desk. He pulled the towel from her lap, placing a hand on her shoulder and pressing her back towards the bed. Her body, surprisingly more pliable than he anticipated, was almost going limp once her head hit the pillow.

    Summary

Utahime doesn't remember a world before Gojo Satoru.

She was only three years old when he was born, but even if he had been older, it wouldn't have mattered. As soon as she could form memories, he occupied them all, inescapable and constant. Her first sense of purpose came through him. Her first friendship formed with him. Every pivotal moment of her development unfolded in his presence.

And she has grown to resent him for it.

She resents his flawlessness, the immaculate exterior concealing the notorious 'Balance Shifter'. But what truly ignites her resentment is how achingly human he can be beneath that perfect façade. Gojo Satoru was never meant to laugh with flushed cheeks and dimples. He was never meant to be the most beautiful person she had ever seen.

Now, bound by family obligations and traditions that prioritise bloodlines over personal desires, Utahime finds herself eternally connected to the man she has spent a lifetime trying to escape. And no matter how much she fights it, one truth remains: there has never been a before Gojo Satoru—only after.

Utahime’s mouth flattens. “You think because you’re better now, that makes everything else irrelevant?”

“Nah,” he disagrees easily. “I think I’m alive because she did what worked. Your clan gave me a pendant. Shoko healed me.”

She gestures toward the pendant toward the koi stream, toward the quiet sanctuary they’re sitting in that her family still protects. “Your clan spits on mine. Calls us obsolete. But when your soul is hanging by a thread and we have the decency to act in the best way we know how, you mock us.”

“I don’t mock it.” His tone doesn’t change, and he doesn’t match her energy. If anything, he sounds almost bored.

    “You do.”

“I mock the pageantry. Not the power.”

“I’m getting married,” Is what she says, nonchalantly, while they’re packed onto Yuji’s couch like sardines, watching, quite ironically, Four Weddings and a Funeral. She says it as though the film has jogged her memory, like it’s some small inconsequential thing, like announcing that she’s going to wear a blue sweater over a red one, or that she’s brought a new pair of shoes.

Megumi nearly chokes on his beer.

A sudden transcendence overcame her. Scattered possibilities in abstract fractals coalescing into a single lazy whisper:

    He wants me.

    Then:

    I can make him mine.

This was, perhaps, her first hubris.
