It’s regarded as a sort of coming-of-age experience for a new Giver to gradually begin to feel things through their Instruments. Some of the more philosophical Givers even claim that it’s because you need to pour some of your soul into an Instrument to use it.

Jabber paused for a second after that thought. ‘Had anyone touched Zan-Zan like that before?’ The tight-ass vibe he gave off said no, but looks could be deceiving. What if he was dating one of those fuck ass cleaners? Would it be that one asshole, Engan? Enjon? What the fuck was it again? Jabber snapped his fingers. Enjin! That was the name! He felt an annoyance rise up in him at the thought.
Or maybe Zanka liked ‘em softer? Jabber’s eyes zeroed in on Rudo. The kid had alot of potential and definitely was more worthy of Zanka than the other guy. Rudo was gonna do great things if he survived ground life, but that didn’t mean he needed Zanka to do that!

But that's not exactly how it happens. Because Jabber Wonger is a scientist that doesn't like to follow all the rules.
And when the consequence of that ends up being him having to trip sit a very clingy, overly affectionate Zanka?
Well, he's not gonna regret it now.

Jabber couldn't put a word to it. He confused Jabber with his actions and words, and treated him with such gentleness sometimes that it hurt. And not in a way that Jabber enjoyed. He could stand physical pain but this, the constant touches, the brushing of hands, the leaning into each other and eye contact that spoke more than words, it hurt in a way that was not enjoyable.
Not one bit, Jabber thought to himself unsurely.
Not at all...
Or Jabber is a little more honest with Zanka about why he won't let him go any further than just being their two-man fight club.
