Ivan lets out a few pitiful grunts, somehow unable to let out any semblance of a purr. As a kid, Ivan would grit his teeth on purpose, his chin thrumming with the force. You don't have to do all that, Till would say, pausing his own purring. Isn't it only polite? Ivan would ask, jaw clenched. How else will you know that your only friend is enjoying your company? Today, Till reels in his punches. Instead, his tail loops around Ivan's arm at the broken bursts of breath.
"Be good," he says, and Ivan lets out a cough. His head bumps into Till's, ears brushing along Till's. An ache spreads along the point of contact. Till bends his head so Ivan will know to press his fingers there.
"I'm nothing but a gentleman," Ivan replies, voice raspy. His tail flicks behind him, as if he's ready to play.

And San Lang whips around, dark hair flying, and the force of his movement is enough to force Xie Lian to drop his hand.
His eye is wide, lips falling open at the sight of Xie Lian, and there is something wrong, Xie Lian knows it within one beat of his heart.
Shock is etched into every of his husband’s features, his pale skin almost translucent with it, as he stares at Xie Lian like he’s a spectre, a taunt, an impossibility.“What’s wrong?”, Xie Lian asks, heart seizing up in his chest as he scans San Lang for wounds, for curse marks. His fingers have gone cold, fear coating his tongue, and he will fix this, whatever it is that has his husband look like this. “Tell me what happened.”
Xie Lian accidentally goes back in time and meets San Lang, who has not yet found him again.

Xie Lian lets out a short noise, eyes widening when he sees the goods. On the shelves are neatly arranged body parts – first an ear, then fingers, then hands, one, two, three, four. An arm severed by the shoulder. He pulls down the other sheets and finds more of the same: mostly minor extremities, toes and fingers, but full feet and a few tongues too. They are all neatly severed, looking almost cured where they've been cut from the body. All of them look identical, and when he picks one of the hands up – Hua Cheng lets out a strangled noise behind him – it flips and twists easily in his grip, free of the paralysis of death.
"They're all from the same person," Xie Lian muses, studying the hand he's holding. "And they're preserved, or perhaps preserving themselves…? They don't have much spiritual energy, but–"
"Gege," Hua Cheng chokes out, "they're you."

“You tattooed my bite on your claiming spot,” Xie Lian said, his voice thick with emotion.
As the crown prince and royal heir to the Kingdom of Xianle, Xie Lian is medically induced into presenting as an alpha at a young age. The thing is... his personality isn't very alpha-like.

He whimpered, murmuring under his breath, "I didn't realise it was mating season already, I thought we had more time, I didn't know, we shouldn't have come here, we never should've come, should've just gone to the next port…"
It started to click into place, though Xie Lian had never seen anything quite like it before. He didn't know how seal reproduction worked. He didn't know they went into heat. And he hadn't considered what that would mean for a selkie.
