Vi sat on the edge of the rooftop, boots dangling off the ledge, watching the alley below.
It was quiet now. The body had been there an hour before the bluecoats showed up—long enough for the blood to start thickening, not long enough to stink. She lit a cigarette, more out of habit than need, and let the smoke curl around her face like a veil.The detective arrived exactly twenty-three minutes after the perimeter was secured. She walked like she had somewhere more important to be—fast, focused, with that tight-shouldered posture that said I don’t make mistakes.
Vi didn’t need to ask her name. She’d known it for weeks now.Detective Caitlyn Kiramman.
Piltover elite. Bright as a blade. Spent her time kicking down doors and cleaning up the messes her council pals pretended didn’t exist. And now she was here, standing over one of Vi’s messes like she had the right.
She was beautiful, too. In a cold, distant sort of way. Like moonlight on steel.
