Remus has endured three years of his behavior. He’d be willing to accept it, deal with it, make peace with the idea of Sirius as a town asshole. Every town has one - they ride loud motorcycles in the middle of the night and spend one too many hours at the town's dive bar.
But Sirius isn’t an asshole, at least to anyone who isn’t named Remus. Sirius holds doors open for little old ladies, he volunteers at local organizations, he mows and rakes and weeds people's yards out of the goodness of his heart. He lives and bleeds for the town of Godric’s Hollow - knows everyone and their children by name and greets them as if they’ve been best friends for years.
Remus would call it performative if he hadn’t been witness to it many times, Sirius Black and his charm and his inability to resist helping someone.
The dick.

As he began to turn to leave he heard the impolite fucker speak."Are the flowers really that off-putting, or is it just me?" asked the chocolaty smooth voice.

When James Potter inherits his father’s game reserve in South Africa and spends a few months there learning the ropes of the business, of course Sirius has to follow him. The doorbell rings in the middle of a Saturday, and Padfoot, bless that big silly boy, barks and wags his tail in his better impersonation of a golden retriever.
"Coming! Just a sec! No, Pads, back, stand back- " Remus finally manages to push Padfoot out of the way and open the door just a crack. There are two men standing outside.
"Hi!" The one wearing glasses says with a bright smile. Padfoot barks louder, trying to push against Remus' legs.
"No, Pads, please shh- Hello?" Remus answers.
"Is that your dog?" Says the man in leather, hands in his pockets, but head trying to peek behind Remus.
"Yeah?" Remus says, and it's almost a question. Padfoot keeps barking. "No, Pads, please, Padfoot, shhh"
"I told you it was Padfoot!" Says the one with the glasses, slapping the other man on the back and then coming even closer, to kneel by Remus' door and try to pet Padfoot through the small crack. "Name's James, this is Sirius-" James nods to the other man, and then his voice shifts to a baby voice "-and this is baby Padfoot, yes you are"
Or
Remus adopts a dog from a shelter. A year later, Sirius Black knocks on his door, looking at Padfoot like he’s seen a ghost.
